Very Nice Scarce Antique Vintage Hickory Shaft Wilson Walker Cup Spoon

This item is a 40 1/2 right-handed original hickory shafted wood. It is a Spoon (3 wood) with interesting dual sole plates. Somewhat faintly marked Thomas E Wilson and Walker Cup on the crown.

Walker Cup Spoon and Reg No 1002 S on the sole plates. While you see the Wilson Walker Cup woods with steel shafts you seldom see the hickory shafted version. This is NOT one of those retrofit steel shafted woods that people put hickory shafts in. This came with the hickory shaft installed at the factory. Butterfly white fancy face with black and white bullseye flanked by two black dowels and 4 aluminum firing pin inserts.

Shows the expected minor play use since it was restored. Please look at the many zoom pictures to get a better idea of condition. The shaft is the apparently original hic kory. It is straight , I see no cracks and it is tight at the hosel. You can still the remains of the original Walker Cup shaft decal just below the grip.

Feels like a stiff flex. The grip is a replaced long leather wrap that is in good vintage condition and has been installed for play or display.

Unusually high 25 loft and a C 3 swingweight. Very scarce fancy face wood. If you are considering playing with this club, while I see no issues with this shaft (other than those mentioned above), I suggest that whipping be added just above the hosel to help prevent breakage. These old wooden shafts often have hidden defects and are liable to break at any time. I do not guarantee wooden shafts or heads against breakage when put into play.

Never hit an old wooden shafted club off a driving range mat. Never hit an old wooden shafted wood with a hard range ball. That is the way the carriers charge.
