Up for sale is a fantastic, beautiful, antique chromolithograph by Louis Prang, titled "CONSEQUENCES". The artist is Edmund Birckhead Bensell and "B" is printed in the bottom right hand corner. His company produced high quality reproductions of major art work and greeting cards using the complex technique of chromolithography.
Prang is often referred to as the'Father of the American Christmas Card' because holiday cards were rarely exchanged in America until his factory began producing them in the 1870s. Louis Prang & Co was one of the most respected American color printers of 19th century. This piece is a boating scene with a man fishing from a small boat having caught a "dog" on his fishing line. He's waving a handkerchief and waving down another man standing on the shore. It is professionally matted & framed in a beautiful, expensive, antique, decorative wood frame.
The hand-carved frame measures approximately 22" x 19". The frame is quite nice, with only some minor dings. There is some browning stains and minor foxing on the mat. The piece itself is approximately 10" x 7 1/2". It has not been examined outside of the frame.
Overall, it is in Good Condition. There is maybe some browning to the print. It is an excellent investment and a superb example of this great printer's work - a perfect piece for any collector! Other dings here and there. This item is in the category "Art\Art Prints". The seller is "book14850" and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped worldwide.
