ANTIQUE VINTAGE LADIES JEWELLERY OR WORKBOX ROSEWOOD VERY NICE. This is a really lovely box and has survived in remarkably good condition. This is the nicest one I have seen for some considerable time. 30.5 x 23 x 17cm and weighs 2.9kg. No makers identification, there rarely is with these.

Rosewood all round with small mother of pearl decoration as cartouche and lock plate. All the veneer is intact and secure except for a very small chip low right front and a small piece of mother of pearl missing from the right rear of the band surrounding the cartouche.

There is a small shrinkage crack in the lid but it is secure. The cartouche is not engraved so the box could be personalised as a present. Opens to reveal a red velvet lined interior with a number of compartments an a lift out tray.

One of the glass pots may be original the other two are not. There are a number of both small manicure and sewing tools in the lid of the lift out tray.

I think the tray would originally have had two pieces of ribbon to make it easier to lift out. The top lid of the box has a'secret' letter compartment with catch. Hinges to top lid are excellent original long brass hinges, and secure.

There is a lower drawer, this originally had a lock but that has been removed and a small handle put on the front. Green baize underneath is excellent. It will be very carefully packed for transit. Collection, and cash on collection, is welcome.
