This is a very nice Philco tombstone model 38-89. The case is in great shape with only minor wear for a radio of this age. The radio powers up and I got two stations but there is hum in the backgroud and for that reason there is a fairly low price placed on this nice tombstone.
The dial is really nice and resembles an airplane dial with brass and black colorings. The actual paper dial seems to have cracked a bit but it has been apparently nicely repaired and it functions properly. There are four original knobs. The pasted tube diagram shows six tubes.
The short wave was not tested and is best tested at night. The tuning knob works fine. The speaker and cloth looks good.
There are embedded stripes on the front and 3 or 4 types of wood including what looks like burl wood--all these woods add to the beautiful design of the radio. Everything looks fairly original to me but one can never be completely sure. Please carefully examine all the pictures for details as I cannot describe every detail and don't hesitate to ask a question. Antique radios should be treated with care as the electronics are delicate and I can only tell you the condition as listed but cannot be held responsible for any damage after the sale. The radio weighs 22 lbs. And measures 13 inches wide, 17.5 tall, 9.5 deep.
