These cards are commonly known as the Dante and Beatrice cards, because the backs of the cards in some of the decks feature a portrait of Dante or that of Beatrice, Dantes muse. The backs of the cards in the deck here listed have the portrait of Dante, a portrait that appears to have been taken from a famous portrait of Dante attributed to Giotto in the chapel of the Bargello Palace in Florence.
The deck features scenic Aces of historical locations in Italy and court cards with a look appropriate to the late middle ages. The deck has 51 suited cards, plus 1 Joker.Minor defects, which are hard to see, are as follows. Missing the 5 of diamonds. 2 of hearts minor stain on top of the card. Jack of hearts small vertical crease at the bottom middle portion of the cards. Ace of Hearts horizontal crease through the bottom portion of the card.
I have pictured all of the defects. I want to be open and honest with all ebayer's so I have disclosed this information. You can be confident that I want to be honest and forthcoming with everyone. The cards are large and wide, measuring 95mm x 65mm, with gold gilt around, and comes in leather case (not original). The cards are in very nice condition. They have been handled over the years as one would expect of such a beautiful deck, almost all of the gold gilt is still intact. I do think that for being nearly 100 years old they are in very nice collectable condition. Reference: Fournier, Playing Cards, Italy 115.
