Amazing Antique Very Rare Curious Riveted Iron Chastity Belt circ. 18th Century with nice age patina. For every weird museum object very decorative and collectible. Provenance from a private collection in Germany. Height about 28 cm (11,02 inches) and total width 37 x 34 cm (13.38 x 12.99) size can be adjusted. A chastity belt is a locking item of clothing historically designed for women, to prevent sexual intercourse. Their purpose was to ensure chastity, in order to protect women from rape or to dissuade women and their potential sexual partners from sexual temptation. By continuous long-term wear it certainly have caused genitourinary infection, abrasive wounds, sepsis and eventual death. The design of the chastity belt was said to have varied by region, though they all had the same basic design.
