African Ceremonial Recade Axe Ax 19th Century Very Nice

This is a very nice example of an African Ceremonial Recade Axe Ax that dates from the late 19th to early part of the 20th Century. It is mounted with a blade that measures 6 1/4 inches long with a cutting edge that measures 5 3/4 inches wide. The blade also has wings on either side and is nicely engraved, remaining in nice condition with just some minor staining. The lovely wooden shaft had survived in healthy condition and features simple but nice carvings with metal panels on either side of the head and a pike on the backside. The shaft measures overall 17 inches in length.
