Offered from an old Dutch stoneware collection, several bottles and jugs collected in the sixties and seventies. A stoneware so called Bellarmine jug.

The jug was made in Frechen, Germany, around 1650. The jug is decorated with an applique of a mens face on the neck and in the center of the body there is an applique with a styled flower probably a Tudor rose. On the left and right schoulder there are two smaller appliques showing a??? The condition of the jug is not perfect, the only damage is the handle is missing and restored (see pictures) furthermore the jug is in perfect condition and is not broken or restored. The salt glazing on the jug is very beautiful and has a really nice color.

Provenance: this bellarmine was found approx. 50 years ago in the center of Amsterdam when the IJ-tunnel was constructed to connect Amsterdam with the northern part of the city through the old harbor of Amsterdam.
